More than one million visit Super Bowl Village

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WWLP) - Super Bowl organizers in Indianapolis say that more than one million people visited its Super Bowl village in the last ten days.

Less than 24 hours after the Super Bowl ended,  the Super Bowl Village in Indianapolis transformed from the center of the sports world into basically a ghost town.   The Giants beat the Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl 46 on Sunday night.

Many people flew or drove back home on Monday.  22News did walk around downtown Indianapolis and did not spot a single person wearing a Patriots hat, jacket or t-shirt.  22News did spot several Giants fans trickling around the Super Bowl village, proudly displaying their colors.

"It's very cool, I live every moment, it's just fantastic", says Pierre Brock a Giants fan from North Plainfield, New Jersey.

"We had heard that all the Colts fans were going to cheer for the Giants, but when I got here I was like wow!  It was so amazing to see how many Giants fans there were", says Giants fan Ruby Vetreno.

Workers were busy breaking down the platforms, signs and everything else that made this Super Bowl village so special.  Surprisingly, Indianapolis turned into a nice location to host a Super Bowl.  The weather worked out, everything was in walking distance and the city put on a great show.

"The way Indianapolis set up the whole city, it was really awesome.  My dad works for NFL films and he said this is the greatest that any city has done so far", says Lindsey Walden who attended her first Super Bowl.

"They're breaking everything down really fast, but I am so proud of my hometown because I'm a native Hoosier", says Elaine Brock who move east from Indianapolis 33 years ago.

The Super Bowl committee in Indianapolis hopes its cities performance will draw the NFL's showcase event back to Lucas Oil Stadium in the future.
