INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WWLP) - The Summer Olympics are on WWLP this year and the Patriots have something in common with the Summer Games. 2012, 2008 and 2004, the Patriots reached the Super Bowl in the January before the last three Summer Games.
2008 is the year most Patriots fans still can't shake, when the Giants ended their perfect season. Lucas Oil Stadium is where many Patriots fans hope they can finally put that game behind them. Revenge is
definitely on the minds of Patriot fans.
"'07 we felt entitled, we felt entitled, and someone took us to school. This year we appreciate it more, I really think we do and we had to work a lot harder to get here", says Hampden's Mike Penna.
"I'm really looking forward to it. I just can't wait to shut up the Giants fans finally", says East Longmeadow's Joe D'Amico.
Back on that Olympic theme. The Olympic symbol has five rings. If the Patriots win Sunday, it would give them their 4th Super Bowl ring. Maybe this is a stretch, but 4 years from now is Super Bowl 50.
As far as the crowd for the Super Bowl, expect it to be a Giants crowd. 22News reporter Ryan Walsh hasn't found one Colts fan who is rooting for the Patriots. Since many of the fans inside Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday will be from Indianapolis, the Giants should have the crowd on their side.
