(WWLP) - Pope Benedict is resigning.
The Vatican says the pope will be stepping down at the end of this month, making him the first pontiff to do so in nearly 600 years. The 85-year-old pope announced his decision in Latin during a meeting of Vatican cardinals this morning. Benedict says he's stepping down because of his advanced age and diminishing strength. There are several papal contenders in the wings but no obvious front-runner as was the case when Benedict was elected pontiff in 2005 after the death of Pope John Paul II.
Two men are dead and a woman has been hospitalized after apparent exposure to carbon monoxide in Springfield.
What used to be a private medical procedure is now being performed in front of a room full of people. Some expecting mothers are throwing ultrasound parties. They broadcast their ultrasounds live to family and friends gathered at a catered affair. It might sound like harmless fun...and it could go smoothly...but there are risks involved.
