(WWLP) - A husband and wife from Westfield drowned in Hampton Ponds last night .  State police say a 64-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman died after their small dog jumped into the water.   The man jumped into the pond to retrieve the dog ...but became distressed and his wife tried to save him.  They both drowned.
Westfield Police Sgt. Raymond Manos told 22News the victims were not wearing life jackets.  

Their names have not yet been released.


The three Democrats hoping to represent Western Massachusetts in Congress traded jabs in a debate last night as their September primary approaches.   
 
Incumbent U.S. Congressman Richard Neal, ex-state Senator Andrea Nuciforo Jr., and political activist Bill Shein covered topics from the financial crisis to campaign finance in Monday's debate in Springfield. The challengers claim Neal's campaign donors are buying his votes in Congress.  But Neal denied the allegations.
    
The primary election is September 6th

Researchers in Rhode Island are testing a new radiation therapy that could help breast cancer patients.  It's called the Accuboost System...and it's being used only to treat the portion of the breast where the cancer is found...following the removal of the cancer.
