(NBCNC) - Across the Northeast the potential for a historic blizzard is on the way, and millions are getting ready.

Forecasts show two powerful systems, one from the Great Lakes and one moving up the East Coat, slamming together to create a powerful Nor'easter.

Parts of New England are expected to be the hardest hit.

"We're talking full blizzard conditions, snowfall totals in parts of New England could approach the two to three foot level, winds gusting over 55 mph at times," warns Weather Channel meteorologist Tom Niziol.

It could be a weekend for the record books if the forecast holds.
