SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Students across western Massachusetts returned to school on Wednesday after their long holiday break, and their first day back was a cold one.
Temperatures in most areas were in the low teens during the morning hours, with a wind chill below zero.
Many parents tried to prepare their children for the freeze; dressing them up in layers before sending them on their way.
“A little cold, a little much, a little drastic all at once--but we manage,” Roxanne Crussana of East Longmeadow said. “We bundle-up and get here; it's just the streets and sidewalks are obviously slicked over.”
Some parents even took the liberty of having their children skip the waiting time at the bus stop, and drove them to school.
