SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - We didn't see much sun, but a complex weather system that brought near record highs to western Massachusetts has brought a welcome change from last weeks cold.
After a chilly and foggy morning, temperatures shot up into the 50s in the Pioneer Valley and near 60 degrees in the Berkshires.
"Well I walk around a lot so it's a real factor, I found it pleasant," said Dave Vigneault of Springfield.
If you were doing any driving, dense fog kept visibility so low you couldn't see across the Connecticut River.
Even with not much snow left on the ground there's still enough to keep the ground cold and when you get milder air over a cold ground that typically leads to fog.
The milder air is welcome, especially with temperatures last week dropping below zero at night and only into the teens and twenties during the day.
"It's a little bit of a tease and it's very easy to get sick with up and down temperatures like that, but we take the good days when we can get them," said Stephen Przybycien of Chicopee.
This strong storm system could bring damaging winds and heavy rain to western Massachusetts and has already created some nasty storms and tornadoes in the Midwest.
Once the rain and wind has moved through western Massachusetts, you can say goodbye to 50s for a while.
