WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) - We had a wet start to December, but it was anything but wet for western Massachusetts for the month of November. The 11th month of the year has been the driest so far in 2012.
It was so dry in November 2012, that at our local climate reporting site at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, the month has been logged as the driest November on record.
In western Massachusetts, we had only half an inch of liquid precipitation; more than three inches less than normal, and tying the record for record lowest rainfall. Our dry November follows a year that brought moderate drought to the area.
While some people are concerned, they hope we make up the moisture in snow this winter.
"You know, last winter was really dry. I'm thinking every other year. We'll see what happens,” Kate Gray of Springfield said. “I think I read the long term forecast says we're supposed to get a lot of snow this year, but we'll see.”
The latest outlook from the Climate Prediction Center calls for a fairly average month of December, both with temperatures and snowfall being close to normal.
While that means the pattern looks fairly normal for this time of year, we can't rule out a big snow or rain storm putting a big dent in our precipitation deficit.
In the meantime, our temperatures for the first full week of December look well above average- check out the 22News Storm Team Forecast to see how long they will last.
