High mounds of snow making drive difficult

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The blizzard may be over, but the snowy mess it left behind isn't going away fast.

Commuters were advised by MassDOT to give themselves extra time to get to work on Monday morning.

Crews worked continuously to plow over the weekend, but many roads are pretty narrow, and Monday’s wintry weather did not help road conditions.

Kristen Condon of Springfield told 22News that the toughest part of getting around right now is the reduced visibility because of the high snow banks.

“I had to be pretty cautious coming down Longhill Street over here. There are huge mounds when you're coming out of parking lots and different streets; you have to use a lot of caution this morning,” Condon said.

MassDOT said that when the roads are slick like this, it's especially important to leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you.
