SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - While a large part of the country is still dealing with severe drought conditions, here in New England our drought has ended.
Dry conditions during late spring and early summer put western Massachusetts in the "moderate drought" category.
Hot and dry conditions in July caused lawns to dry out and drop river levels below normal.
But heavy rains from showers and thunderstorms that brought us flash flooding last month and more heavy rain earlier this week from the remnants of Hurricane Isaac, have helped us out a lot with our drought conditions.
The rivers are back up to normal levels and the lawns are a lot greener now than they were earlier this summer.
The official start of fall is still a couple of weeks away but we're already starting to see some of the leaves changing color.
This is likely a result of the dry conditions we experienced earlier this year. But not everyone has noticed the leaves starting to change color.
“Yeah it looks like the beginning of spring instead of the beginning of fall everything just seems greener out here. Everything seems to be blossoming now then it should've been doing three months ago,” said Christina Ramos of Springfield.
“Everything looks pretty green right now so it doesn't look like it changed over too quickly so I think we still have a little time to see something pretty,” said Jennifer Salvador of Ludlow.
If we continue to get rain, we could end up seeing some pretty nice color this fall.
