Early season snow still possible

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - While the details still need to be fine tuned, western Massachusetts has a chance of some snow falling this week.

"It's definitely early, but we live in New England and it's nothing that we're not used to and we deal with whatever we get so you don't necessarily look forward to it, but it's inevitable," said David Peltier of West Springfield.

The storm system that is heading our way looks to take a track further to the east than originally thought. That means less rain and wind, but slightly more cold and a chance for snow.

Usually our first inch of snowfall doesn't happen in western Massachusetts until later into November and in December, depending on where you live. Many communities should expect less than one inch of snow from this system Wednesday into Thursday.

Of course we don't have to go back too far in recent memory to find an early snow. Last year's October snow storm brought several feet of snow to the Berkshires.

Despite the fact that this would be an unusually early snowfall for western Massachusetts, people 22News spoke with say they're already prepared.

"I got the snow thrower out and started up and oiled it and greased the fittings just to get it ready for the first snow storm," said Donald Caplette of Chicopee.
