SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It's pretty unusual to be talking about a hurricane around here at the end of October, but it is definitely something that can happen.
Even though Hurricane Sandy will be much weaker when it starts to move our way next week, it could still cause problems.
The hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. Most hurricanes and tropical storms that have affected us in that past have come in August or September. Still, we know after last year’s bizarre snowstorm, we can expect just about anything here in New England.
“It's mother nature, so you never know what they have a standard of, what the season is, but you can't go by that,” Richard Mastronarda of Chicopee said.
“In the past, it might be odd, but seeing our weather has taken such a crazy turn and anything can happen, I would not put anything too far at the back of my mind,” Ellen Castor of West Springfield said.
In addition to last year’s snowstorm, we were also impacted by the Halloween Storm or “Perfect Storm,” which really devastated the Massachusetts coastline back in 1991.
Remember: you can sign up for text alerts to get the latest on Sandy, and we also have a timeline showing some of the most disastrous storms that have occurred during October.
