CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Tuesday is a day dedicated to all those who monitor the weather for a living: it’s National Weatherperson's Day.
The holiday celebrates the 1744 birth of John Jeffries , one of the country’s first weather observers. In 1774, Jeffries began taking daily weather observations from Boston.
Now, on February 5 of every year, we celebrate all the people involved in bringing you accurate, reliable forecasts that also intend to keep you safe; forecasts that you find valuable and important.
"Very important, I'm a school bus driver, so I always watch the weather every day,” Phil Deveno of West Springfield said.
"We wake up to it. We actually go to bed listening to the weather so we're always watching 22,” David Rooney of Greenfield said.
We on the 22News Storm Team appreciate you spending your mornings or your nights watching 22News to get your latest forecast.
While we occasionally struggle to understand Mother Nature’s plans, our four dedicated full-time meteorologists do our best to keep you ahead of the next storm and keep you and your family safe.
