CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - It is now official- western Massachusetts has seen its fourth heat wave of the summer, and we’re not even done with July!

The temperature at Westover Air Reserve Base reached 91 degrees at 11:00 on Wednesday morning, making it an official heat wave; with three consecutive days of temperatures above 90 degrees.

Though the official temperature is hot, the heat index (which is what it actually feels like outside) is even higher- at 95 degrees in Springfield and 94 degrees in Northampton and Westfield.

By noon time, temperatures climbed even higher, to 93 degrees at Westover, with a heat index over 100 degress in Springfield.

As a result of these extremely hot temperatures, a Heat Advisory has been issued for eastern portions of Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties.

A little bit of relief from the heat may be on the way, but it will come thanks to some strong and potentially severe storms that are expected to move through the area on Wednesday afternoon. For the latest, check out the 22News Storm Team Forecast.
