MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WWLP) - American Red Cross volunteers from western Massachusetts continue to assist with the hurricane relief efforts along the Northeastern coast.
Supplies are being moved from a temporary Red Cross headquarters in Middletown, Connecticut to be brought to hard-hit areas along the nearby Connecticut Shoreline, as well to hard-hit parts of New York and Rhode Island.
Local volunteers like Evelyn Sullivan of Palmer, told 22News that they are happy to help, because so many Red Cross volunteers came to our area following the June 1 Tornado and Hurricane Irene.
“They called us up to ask if we the Pioneer Valley and western Mass volunteers could come down and assist Connecticut, they came up for the tornado relief and they were such a great help to us, we just wanted to pay back what they did for us, because we would never have been able to do what we were able to do without them,” Sullivan said.
22News reporter Elysia Rodriguez is following Red Cross volunteers, and will have a report from the devastated Misquamicut Beach area of Westerly, Rhode Island on 22News starting at 5.
