Monson hit hard by winter storm

Over a foot and a half of snow fell in Monson

MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) - Our latest winter storm has come to an end and many people in the Springfield area didn't see a lot of snow.

In Monson in eastern Hampden County they're digging out from over a foot and a half of snow.

If you live in the Springfield area, the latest snowstorm was probably just a morning inconvenience. In Chicopee only about two inches of snow fell and by noon a lot of it had already melted away.

Only about 15 to 20 miles to the east many people spent the day digging out, on Wales Road in Monson 18 inches by Friday afternoon had fallen.

Ronnie Nobbs who was looking forward to spring, spent the morning trying to get the snow off his driveway, "I think it's ridiculous this time of year it really is, the lawn was out yesterday there was just a couple of snow banks left, looking forward to Spring.”

The heavy wet snow really piled up and made for very slippery driving conditions. Some cars had trouble just making it down the road.

Mike Hendricks of Monson said, "I've had enough of it, it just keeps on coming. This is the heavy kind of snow too.”

Eastern parts of western Massachusetts saw the most snow from the storm because continuous heavier bands of snow moved through that area but didn't quite make it into the Springfield area.

The good news is despite all the snow they got on Friday the roads are in much better shape right now.
