SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts hasn't forgotten the long power outages from the 2011 Halloween weekend storm. So, when Hurricane Sandy appeared to threaten the Pioneer Valley, people began buying generator.
On Monday, LA Contractor Supply of Springfield delivered a $5,000 generator to a family living in Springfield’s Forest Park neighborhood.
“The storm has some part to do with it, but I think he wants to have one just in case,” said Anthony Rousseau of LA Contracting Supply.
Fears about Hurricane Sandy and memories of last year's October snowstorm convinced Cliff and April Medeiros to buy a generator for their home in Sixteen Acres.
“We were without power for a week, and it was very stressful. But this time, we decided to get a generator,” Cliff Medeiros said.
“The last couple of storms, the kids got very nervous, whenever they hear that something's coming. I tried to show them that we're prepared,” April Medeiros said.
Cliff and April Medeiros told 22News that had their neighborhood lost power during Hurricane Sandy, they were prepared to provide shelter for their neighbors.
