Some restrictions continue, some businesses suffer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Parking bans that lasted more than a week in some communities have some of you saying they hurt more than they help.

Even more than ten days after our february nor'easter blew out of new england, some parking restrictions continue.

"I feel like at this point they should just finish up what's already been done and take the parking ban off because at this point there isn't much need for it,” said Sahar Kafi from Agawam.

Parking bans don't just affect your ability to park easily, but it makes it harder for some businesses to attract customers.

The owner of Mom and Ricos in Springfield noticed a drop in store patrons during the parking ban.

"It's just a little psychological too. it is a lot quieter you know? Luckily we are family we try to keep it alive, but it's very slow," said Rico Daniele.

To make matters worse, communication about the parking bans has been confusing in some cases.

The parking ban had been in place in Springfield for over a week and was finally lifted on Sunday, but chances are you didn’t' find out about that until now.

"Because it happened over the weekend there was a bit of an oversight on my part, we didn't let the media know," said John Rooney, the Deputy Director of the Springfield DPW>

Not only that, but 22News noticed at least one of the blue lights warning of the parking ban was still flashing midday Tuesday, days after the ban had been lifted.

The blue parking ban lights have now been turned off in Springfield.

In addition, Agawam, Monson and Granby let us know on Tuesday that they discontinued their parking bans.

Holyoke is now the only remaining community that not lifted their parking bans as of publishing of this story.
