Parking ban still on as Holyoke DPW crews work to remove snow

Cars will be ticketed and towed for violations

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - It has been almost two weeks now since the big February 8-9 Nor’Easter, but a parking ban is still in effect in the city of Holyoke.

Around two feet of snow fell in the city, and like the departments of public works in other communities, plow crews in Holyoke have had a difficult time removing all of the snow.

Weeks later, people are parking on the street in the Paper City, but if you see a yellow marker next to the curb, you had better move your car, because crews are still out doing snow removal.

“No parking on the right side of High Street!” one Holyoke officer announced through his cruiser’s loudspeaker on Thursday. “The snow removal signs are up. We're going to ticket and tow!”

The DPW is taking the snow away and dumping in the lot of the old Parsons Paper Company.

Mohammed Sabir, owner of Dollar Plus Home Décor on High Street told 22News that he is happy the city still has crews out working to remove the snow.

“After they clean, everybody’s comfortable to park properly,” Sabir said.

According to Holyoke DPW Superintendent William Fuqua, with more snow expected, the city will likely keep the parking ban in effect right through the weekend.
