(WWLP) - When Hurricane Sandy came to the East Coast, we were spared most of her fury here in western Massachusetts, but so many others in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states weren’t so lucky. Homes, businesses, and communities were destroyed or severely damaged from eastern Massachusetts to Virginia.

The Red Cross does phenomenal disaster assistance work---if you would like to donate and do your part, you can log on to the Red Cross website at redcross.org , or you can text REDCROSS to 90999 for an automatic $10 donation.

You can also call the Red Cross to make a donation at 1-800-RED-CROSS.

On Friday, 22News aired a star-studded special Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together , it was a one-hour event to benefit the victims of this disaster. Guests on this very important television event included Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Jon Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, Christina Aguilera, Sting, Jimmy Fallon, Kevin Bacon, Mary J. Blige, Tina Fey, James Gandolfini, Al Roker,  Jon Stewart, and Brian Williams. The program was hosted by Matt Lauer.
