Sandy power outages sporadic, short-lived-- so far

Outages being resolved, but worst is yet to come

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - When the lights go out during a major storm like Sandy, it can be very concerning, especially considering how long thousands were without power in western Massachusetts at this time last year. Still, for those who saw power outages Monday due to the approach of Hurricane Sandy, most of those outages were resolved pretty quickly.

Around noon on Monday, about 2,000 WMECo customers lost power in West Springfield, but the lights came back on for them about an hour later.

Similarly, there have been two power outages in Southwick, both of which were quickly fixed.

Still, for customers in the Hilltowns, restoration has not come quite as quickly. Sporadic outages have been reported all day throughout western Hampden and Hampshire Counties, as well as in Berkshire County. The longest-lasting outages in that region has been in Chesterfield, New Ashford, and Lanesborough.

In eastern Franklin County, about 300 National Grid customers in New Salem have been without power for much of the day.

You can track power outages in real time  WMECo ( WMECo mobile site )and National Grid.
