Sarno: Stay off the roads

Some side streets may not be clear until Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is urging city residents to follow Governor Patrick’s travel ban and not go out on the roads Saturday morning.

Speaking to 22News over the phone on Saturday, Sarno said that DPW workers will continue their efforts to clear the roads of the city until 11:00 A.M. when they are mandated to get some rest. The cleanup effort will continue later in the afternoon.

The effort to clear the city’s side streets could continue through Sunday, and the Mayor urges patience.

“We’ll get through this working together, but this is a historic storm,” Sarno said, adding that it was fortunate that the city did not experience the widespread power outages seen in other parts of the state.
