SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Residents of western Massachusetts woke up to the first flakes from a long-lasting snowstorm on Thursday morning.
The wet, heavy snow was sticking to grassy surfaces and cars, but not roadways in the lower Pioneer Valley, and while drivers may have taken their commutes a little slower, no major incidents were reported.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the whole Pioneer Valley until Friday afternoon. Storm Team Meteorologist Ashley Baylor predicts light snow to continue throughout the day, with some pockets of moderate to heavier snow over the Berkshires and Hilltowns.
About 2-4” of snow is expected in total across the lower Pioneer Valley, with 4-6” of snow in eastern Hampden, eastern Hampshire, and most of Franklin County. 6-8” of snow is possible in the Berkshires and the Hilltowns.
