Hottest summer month is still to come

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - What a difference the weekend can make. Once our work week was over, we flipped a switch and temperatures made a considerable drop from the 90's to the 80's.

"It was way too hot you couldn't even go outside," said Yanko Kaluche of Northampton.

"It's much better, I like it when it's 85 rather than 95 or 100. It was so hot, uncomfortable, you need to drink a lot more, can't relax as much," said Dana Dumas of Springfield.

For the Northeast, three days of temperatures at 90 degrees or higher is considered a heat wave, a heat wave that started just in time for summer.

Now that the weekend has arrived, temperatures stayed away from the 90 degrees, bringing comforting relief and a big change from the way we ended the week.

Near the Oxbow in Northampton, the more comfortable conditions were great for boaters who didn't like the heat we had to deal with to end the week.

"It's much drier, the humidity broke somewhat today so we'll be going up river again today on the jet ski with the kids," said Shelly Kaluche of Northampton.

"It's easier to work in this type of weather. It's good boating weather it's more comfortable to be out. You don't necessarily have to go swimming all the time or be cooling yourself off. It’s much more comfortable weather to do what you need to do," said David Rice of Springfield.

With this hot start to the end of June, it's important to know our hottest summer month is actually in July. So while this latest heat wave is now over, there's plenty of time for more.
