CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The 22News Storm Team has added up the numbers; and this weekend’s February nor'easter will go down as a historic storm.
The storm, which dumped snow across the Northeast from Friday into Saturday morning wasn't the most snow we've had out of a snow storm, but it was close.
In Chicopee we received 19.6" over the course of two days. As far as snow storms go, this is the third highest snowfall in a storm; ranking behind a late February storm in 1949, which dumped 22”, and a mid-February storm in 1958 which dumped 20” in Chicopee.
People 22News spoke with said that they are not surprised this storm is so high on the list.
“I'd say it's in the top three, top five or so, definitely. Luckily, it was light and not like a heavy, wet snow. That really saved everybody. I think if it was a heavy wet snow, people would still be buried,” Tony Mercieri of Monson said.
This ranking is only based on snowfall amounts, not by other impacts or cost.
