HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The 62nd annual Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade kicks off this Sunday and if you're headed to the parade, you'll need to keep warm.
Last year people were wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts as temperatures made it all the way up to near 80 degrees.
Typically temperatures get up into the 40’s on parade day. But it can be pretty chilly in the morning when people are lining up and staking out territory along the parade route.
But despite the temperature it's always a good idea to put on sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. The sun's rays are quite strong this time of year and a lot of us haven't been outside much lately so our skin is not accustomed to the sun and we tend to burn faster.
And remember even if it's a windy and chilly day you're skin will still burn.
Although it doesn't look we have to worry about snow and cold this year like we did back in 1998, you need to be prepared, whether you're marching in the parade or if your watching it.
“You have to be prepared for almost anything right up til the last moment. You kinda dress in layers and plan for the worst and hope for the best really,” said Springfield Parade Marshal Ed Noonan.
“Well we wear our Irish sweaters so if it's going to be really cold we'll definitely be wearing layers. We're definitely keeping a close eye to the forecast to figure out what we should be wearing,” said Springfield Colleen Mary Kate Sullivan.
Right now it looks like temperatures will be around 40 degrees and it will be breezy so dress in layers.
