HUNTINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) - January is usually our snowiest month, but February is not exactly a month to relax about. So, what can we expect for the rest of this month’s weather?
Monthly predictions can easily be thrown off by a big snow storm, but the latest outlook from the Climate Prediction Center expects a fairly average February in terms of snowfall and temperature.
Average doesn't mean boring, though; February is usually our second-snowiest month. A typical February averages close to a foot of snow, while snowfall amounts drop off quite a bit in March and April.
February is also still a cold month, with a high temperature usually averaging in the mid 30’s and overnight lows in the upper teens.
Some western Massachusetts residents, like Colin Monkiewicz of Montgomery, say that they would like to see the traditionally cold weather.
"This year's been a little different than most years, recent years anyway. So I hope it will be colder and hopefully get some more snow,” Monkiewicz said. "It's nice to get the long days with more sunlight."
No doubt you've already noticed our increased amount of daylight. December was our darkest month with 9 hours of daylight, while February averages 11 hours.
Sunset on Monday is at 5:09 and the sun will rise Tuesday around 7:00 A.M.
