WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A local company is helping light homes and businesses that are still without power. Throughout 12 states, more than 4.7 million utility customers remained without electricity on Thursday.
West Springfield-based Cyalume Technologies manufactures and distributes military-grade chemical lighting products. The glow-stick lights that they make are helping thousands of people bring light to darkness, without the need for batteries or candles.
One person picked up 80,000 lights to bring to New York to help people there who are still without power.
"We've had several people come up with trucks instead of waiting for deliveries to come down and picking up," Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jack Sullivan said. "I think yesterday we had a gentleman show up to get 80,000 sticks and he just placed another order today, and he's going to come back up today, and he's just one of many."
The glow sticks are non-flammable and do not break as easily as flashlights.
