Mixtape | Give some love on Valentine's Day

Tell your sweetie they rock with personal tunes

INDIANAPOLIS (LIN) - Curious the way Valentine’s Day rolls around every year and it seems so many get hung up about love, whether they have it or don’t, or simply wonder why we have a holiday specifically for saying “I love you,” when simply put we should be saying it every day.

To me, I think Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to remind the ones you love how you feel.

You don’t have to by a card, or even diamonds. Make something. Bake something! Even something as simple as a hand-written note can show you’re thinking about that special someone.

Personally, my favorite Valentine is a mixtape. What better way to say, “Hey, I think you’re pretty neat-o,” than some sweet tracks for your sweetheart.

A little how-to

Of course, we all don’t have the same musical tastes, but the basics of a good mixtape are pretty simple.

Find a few songs you know your true love likes. Remember to put “your song” on the list if you have one. No better way than to sneak that into the middle and surprise them you remembered.

Both oldies and fresh tracks are all fair game. Make sure to have some slow jams, as well as some upbeat rockers. And it is just fine to be a little cheesy.

Mostly remember that the songs you choose should be ones you love. That’s giving the recipient a big part of you, and shows you’ve spent a part of your own time creating something especially for them.

And if you want to throw a diamond on top of that, then that’s all up to you.
