PERTH, Australia (NBC/RTV) - Beaches near Perth in western Australia were closed Tuesday after an unusually large group of sharks was spotted just offshore.
Around 100 sharks were spotted just one-third of a mile off a popular beach.
The crew of a rescue helicopter spotted the animals while they were feeding on a school of bait fish.
A local beach manager said the size of the school, also known as a shiver, was "absolutely unusual."
Beaches near the scene of the sighting were closed for several hours while shark alarms warned people to get out of the water.
