CHICAGO (CNN/WGN) - A TV helicopter crew in Chicago spotted a stray dog running along the shoulder of Interstate 55 and followed it off the Stevenson Expressway, as it made its way into a nearby neighborhood.

Police and others were seen trying to rescue the dog, including Jose Terriquez, who had been watching the chase live on television.

"I wasn't scared at all to grab him. And he was just like just barking at me and he rolled to his belly and that's when I just grabbed him. And he was pretty much like, I got caught," said Terriquez.

The dog's microchip shows the Bichon Frise-Poodle mix is registered to a puppy mill in Iowa.

Aside from dehydration and exhaustion, the dog is in excellent health and will soon be looking for a good home.
