BRANDON, Miss. (AP) — Police in Brandon say a convenience store robbery was stopped when the suspect's mother intervened.
The Tuesday morning robbery attempt was reported at a store on Highway 80.
Brandon detectives say a man approached the cashier with a bag of chips. He pulled out a gun and demanded money when the clerk opened the cash register.
The man's mother was also in the store and saw the robbery attempt, police said. She ran over to her son and stopped the robbery, police said.
The mother and son drove away but were spotted by police in Pelahatchie.
Twenty-two-year-old Roy Mitchell of Flowood was arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery.
