LESHAN, China (NBC/CCTV) - People near a village in Southwest China were able to see something most people in the world would pay good money to watch: a fairly close-up view of an estimated 220-pound panda in the wild.
The giant panda was sleeping by a mountain road near a national nature reserve in Sichuan Province.
Word got around, and a crowd of people gathered to take a look.
After a while staff of the reserve arrived, and they scooted down the mountainside and took pictures of the panda from about 9 feet away.
Later the panda woke up, spotted the crowd of people and quickly returned to the woods.
There are about 56 wild giant pandas in the reserve.
