WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC/WRC) - The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History showed off the world's largest aquamarine gem, also the world's largest cut stone.

It's called the Dom Pedro Gem.

Miners collected it in Brazil in the late 80s, and it's named after Brazil's first two emperors.

The blue-green crystal is more than a foot tall and weighs nearly five pounds. That's 10,363 carats!

The Dom Pedro Gem will be part of the permanent collection at the Natural History Museum.
