WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama, popular in blue states, is offering a decidedly red message. He is reminding all the "gentlemen" that "Today is Valentine's Day."

He warned Tuesday that they should not forget and says he could have used a reminder at some point in his relationship with his wife, Michelle.

Before giving his remarks about the benefits of a payroll tax cut, he offered his advice to the men for Valentine's that they should "go big."

He said that on Valentine's Day men are wise to put cost aside. He acknowledged of his own obligations during the afternoon by tweeting "Happy Valentine's Day" to Michelle.

No word on how big he went.
