Visitors get snowed in at British pub

Patrons at the highest pub in England kept the New Year's party going through Sunday after they were snowed in.

The BBC reports that about 30 people were stuck inside the Tan Hill Tavern in North Yorkshire for three nights when they discovered they couldn't move their cars. The tavern is 1,700 feet above sea level.

Despite the adverse conditions, patron Paul Manson said that spirits remained bright.

"Everyone's been chipping in by doing the washing up, peeling potatoes, getting cars out of the snow and keeping the generator going," he said.

Visitors were finally able to leave after snow plows arrived on Sunday and cleared the roads.

Tavern owner Tracy Daly told the Toronto Star that the bar nearly ran out of beer and it wasn't even for their biggest crowd. In 2008 the tavern hosted a four-day music festival featuring the British band the Arctic Monkeys that attracted 1,300 people.
