AUSTIN (KXAN) - A fight between two men just before 5 p.m. Saturday resulted in one man being hit in the head and cut with an axe.

Austin police responded to a call about a disturbance with a weapon in the 5200 block of Thunder Creek Road and found a man bleeding from his head, who was walking to the nearby fire department.

Another patrol officer was in the area behind a nursing home at 5301 Duval Road and saw a man walking, carrying an axe with a medium-sized blade and a wooden handle. The officer took the suspect, Jesse Che Scott, 37, to the fire department where the victim was being examined.

Police showed the victim the suspect's driver's license photo and he identified the man in the picture as the one who hit him with the axe, police said.

The affidavit states the victim is a cousin of Scott's neighbor, and that the two were in Scott's apartment drinking for a few hours. They argued, and Scott said the victim allegedly punched him in the stomach a few times, so he grabbed the axe which he keeps a few feet from his front door. Scott allegedly told police he hit the victim in the head once with the axe.

The victim suffered a single-cut wound to his left ear and the head just above the ear. He was taken to Brackenridge Hospital by medics at the fire department for treatment.

Scott was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
