A terrifying accident. An 18-wheeler barreling north on California's Highway 101 sideswiped and rolled over a BMW on a bridge, then went off the bridge and exploded in the creek bed below.
The crushed car was somehow still on the bridge. Inside were Kelli Groves and her daughters, 10-year-old Sage and Mylo, a newborn.
California Highway Patrolmen and firefighters were on the scene within minutes. But getting the family out would take time -- time at least one of the children didn't have.
But as the firefighters slowly cut the car apart to get them out, it slipped and leaned with each cut toward the abyss below.
But even more terrifying was when they decided to stop cutting. Which was just about the moment the terrible, frightening, awful story became almost too improbable to believe.
