1. Is chocolate milk really a good post- exercise drink?
When you exercise, your body uses the carbohydrate stored in your muscle for fuel. After exercise, you want to restore the carbohydrate in your muscle so you can exercise again. If you do not restore the glycogen, your legs would wobbly and you could not exercise well.
Studies in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition compared chocolate milk to sugary sports drinks like Gatorade after exercise. They found that chocolate milk does a better job. Researchers say the protein in the milk helps the carbohydrate in the milk become muscle fuel. The chocolate in the milk provides extra carbohydrate giving the perfect protein to carb ratio for replenishing the muscle fuel after exercise. Drinking it within 1 hour after exercise is best and the closer to the end of exercise, the better.
2. Is it possible to reverse atherosclerosis?
Atherosclerosis is when you get fatty deposits on the walls of your arteries. If the build up is too great, it will block the flow of blood causing a heart attack. We know eating a healthy diet and exercise can keep your arteries clear and some research does show you can actually reverse the build up of these fatty deposits to some degree.
