(WWLP) - It's your money and we're watching it. 22News did some diggingand uncovered the cost of an under used bike path project.
Three million dollars of your tax money went to buildSpringfield's bike path, yet few people use it.
22News asked the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission if theythink it is a good use of your money. They told us the federalmoney was earmarked for a bike path.
Christopher Kurtis from the Pioneer Valley Planning Commissionsaid, "If that money didn't go to Springfield it would have gone toa bikeway project elsewhere. So the choice was to have it ornot."
Many residents do not use the bike path because they simplydon't feel safe.
The Memorial Bridge underpass is one area of the bike path thatsome homeless people like to call home.
One Springfield resident has been working with city leaders somore people take advantage of the bike path.
Sheila McElwaine said,” We had guided walks last summerand this summer and we published videos and photos on urbancompass."
Christopher said we need more people like Sheila to help makethe investment worth your money.
