MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — A state judge has set bail at $1.5 million for a man arrested in connection with a shootout in Westbrook where a trooper was injured and another man was shot to death by police.
Twenty-four-year-old Sebastian Award of Deep River was arraigned Monday in Middletown Superior Court on charges including attempted murder and robbery. His lawyer says he didn't fire a single gunshot.
State police say Award and 24-year-old Jonathan Alvarado of Deep River robbed a motel in Old Saybrook last week and led police on a chase into Westbrook that ended with a crash and shootout.
Police killed Alvarado. State police Detective Scott Wisner was shot but survived.
Award also was injured. He appeared in court after being discharged from a hospital. He's due back in court May 14.
