MILFORD, Conn. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of the man shot by a state trooper while allegedly robbing a Milford gas station earlier this week.
Police say 28-year-old Matthew Lofaro was shot by Trooper 1st Class James Scott at about 3 a.m. Wednesday inside Patriot Fuels.
Police say Scott was making a routine check and interrupted the robbery.
The uniformed trooper shot Lofaro after he refused orders to drop a knife. Lofaro was declared dead at the scene.
The trooper was taken to a hospital for evaluation of minor injuries. A store worker was unhurt.
Per department protocol, Scott, a 15-year veteran, was placed on administrative duty pending a review of the shooting.
The shooting remains under investigation.
