HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Deep River man has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a state trooper during a gunfight in Westbrook where another man was shot to death by police.
State police charged 24-year-old Sebastian Award at Hartford Hospital on Saturday with attempted murder, robbery and several other crimes. He will be arraigned Monday in Superior Court if he's discharged from the hospital.
State police say Award and 24-year-old Jonathan Alvarado of Deep River robbed a motel in Old Saybrook last Monday and led police on a chase into Westbrook. The chase ended a car crash and a shootout with troopers.
Alvarado was killed and state police Detective Scott Wisner was injured. Wisner is back home recovering.
Award was also injured. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
