CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut is a difficult topic for anyone to address, but it can be particularly difficult to talk with your children about it.
Dr. Barry Sarvet, a child psychiatrist at Baystate Medical Center, told 22News that it is important for parents to discuss this tragic topic with their children. He says that parents should acknowledge to their children that this event could have them feeling distressed, and reassure them that they are there to listen to them.
Additionally, Dr. Sarvet says that children need a message that they will be safe, and that parents have to emphasize exactly what they do to ensure their children are safe.
