TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) - When a Torrington newlywed made a pit stop to gas up while driving with her husband last Saturday, she didn't expect that the stop would change her life.
Tina Maritano was enjoying a sunny day out with her husband when they stopped to fill the tank Saturday. Working together as a team in their newly formed partnership, Tina's husband Dominic pumped the gas while she ventured inside to pay.
While inside the store, Tina decided to test her luck.
"I asked the clerk for a $10 scratch ticket, any ticket, and he gave me a 'Pinball Wizard,'" Tina said. "I got back to the car and before we left, I scratched the ticket. We both started crying when we saw I won $100,000."
Tuesday, Tina claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters for $68,303, the value after taxes, with her dad and Dominic by her side.
"We're still kind of in shock," she told Lottery officials. "We just got married seven months ago. This will help pay off my student loans, put a down payment on a house, and finally take a honeymoon!"
Tickets for the newest edition of Pinball Wizard XVIII went on sale April 15th. Lottery officials said Tina's $100,000 top prize is the first of eight in the game to be claimed.
