WARE, Mass. (WWLP) - The bitter cold only increased the pain for a family of fire victims in the town of Ware this weekend.
The hearts of their neighbors went out today to the family of five who had to evacuate their home at 50 East street Friday night.
The attic fire did enough damage to make the home unlivable at least for now.
Retired Ware Police Officer Thomas Motyka grew up next door.
"So when something like this goes down we come together. They we usually come together. They do what they have to nobody wants to see anybody else on the street," Thomas Motyka told 22News.
"It's a shame that they just purchased it and I don't know if it's livable or not, being as cold as it is, it doesn't take long, especially with the wind chill factors," He continued.
The Pioneer Valley Red Cross disaster relief team notified 22News they've helped the family with food and a temporary place to stay.
A fire department spokesman said it was terribly cold fighting that fire on Friday night.
