AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Amherst firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that forced five people from their home Monday night.
In a statement sent to 22News, Amherst Fire Chief Tim Nelson said that firefighters from Belchertown and Northampton assisted Amherst firefighters as they tried to put out the fire at 141 Leverett Road.
No one was injured, but the house is uninhabitable, and the Red Cross is assisting the residents with clothing and a place to stay.
Investigators returned to the North Amherst home Tuesday morning to look into the cause, and just where in the home the fire started. Nelson says that at this point, they do not believe the fire is suspicious.
