SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A woman whose home was destroyed by a massive fire in Springfield last week says they plan to rebuild.
Anna Smith and her family were meeting with her landlord and insurance adjuster Monday morning on Chase Avenue to talk about their options.
Smith is one of the 24 people the American Red Cross assisted after the July 3rd fire , which destroyed two multi-family homes on the Forest Park street and damaged several others. She told 22News that the helpful response from her neighbors has been overwhelming.
"It's kind of more than what I expected, because I remember hearing before that Springfield has no sense of community, which we completely found out was not true," Smith said. "We had neighbors coming out the day of the fire handing out coffees to everybody, handing out sandwiches, close shoes, everything, everything. They've done anything that they possibly could, and we're so grateful because without them we wouldn't have what we have now."
22News I-Team reporter Laura Hutchinson is on Chase Avenue, and will have the latest tonight on 22News starting at 5.
