WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The State Fire Marshal's Office has released the identity of the victim of a deadly fire at a Westfield elderly housing complex.
Jennifrer Mieth of the Department of Fire Services told 22News that Margaret A. Lunden, 72, was killed in the fire at the General Shepard Apartments on Monday afternoon.
According to Deputy Westfield Fire Chief Mark Devine, the fire started in a first-floor apartment at the multi-story complex. In addition to Lunden's death, one firefighter had to be taken to Noble Hospital for unspecified injuries. That firefighter was released from the hospital later in the day.
Fire Marshal Stephen Coan will hold a news conference on Wednesday afternoon to announce the cause of the fire.
The fire caused the evacuation of the building's upper floors, and residents were temporarily moved to the Westfield Senior Center.
