GAINESVILLE, Fl. (WWLP) - Aaron Hernandez avoided legal trouble following a 2007 fight in which a bar employee was badly hurt, the Wall Street Journal is reporting.
According to the paper , the former Patriots player, who was 17 at the time, had ordered two drinks at a Gainesville, Florida bar. He refused to pay, and when an employee confronted him, Hernandez punched the employee in the ear.
He never denied it, but prosecutors did not file charges, even though police asked them to.
Prior to playing professionally as a tight end for the Patriots, Hernandez played in college for the University of Florida, located in Gainesville.
Hernandez, who has been charged with the murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd , is also being sued for allegedly shooting a friend in the face last year.
